Hi-res Airfield kit.

Serves absolutely no purpose except to look nice on take-off and landing or in the gunsight reticule.

Martin Kubani made a very hi-res Panther tank pack for EAW about 18 months ago. I asked him how he did it, and he was kind enough to explain although since I was a ".3dz virgin" at the time I assumed it was beyond me in the same way that Cuneform writing or sub-atomic physics are. Anyway, all this time later I still remembered what he told me, so I had a go. Since any ground object can be assigned its' own .pcx file with a bit of simple hex-editing (just change GRND05.PCX on the first line to HANGAR.PCX for example) you then have a 256 x 256 space to fill with a hangar skin rather than the odd 30 and 40 pixcel spaces allowed them on the original .pcx file. After that you have to re-map the elements to fit the new .pcx file which is rather time-consuming but in the case of the Airfield buildings not so bad as few of them have more than 20 elements to re-map.

I do hope I'm not boring you.

Anyway, the upshot is that you can have a much more detailed skin on the ground object in this way without causing any problems to the other ground objects, even those that were pointed to the same original .pcx files as the objects you are modifying.

If you didn't understand this but feel you might want to feel free to drop me a line at GhostBureau@yahoo.co.uk, or via the SimHQ EAW Forum.

If you did understand this but don't care anyway, congratulations, you must have more of a life than I have :).

So, a great big thank you to Geo for the dicovery of "The Method", Martin Kubani from the Slovak Republic for bringing it to my attention and explaining it to me so simply that it only took me 18 months to undertand (and that is my fault, not his :)), and to Harry "M" Mc.williams from whose site I got the list of Ground Objects which saved me a lot of time searching through the TMOD**.3DZ files.

To use, drop all the .tpc and .3dz files into your EAW directory.

To remove, reverse the process. Object-specific files are listed below.

I hope you enjoy it. Take it easy guys.
